Day Jobs
I came across these principles titled, “How to Be Creative” on Hugh Macleod’s site. http://www.gapingvoid.com/Moveable_Type/archives/000932.html
Principle number 1: Ignore Everybody
Or put another way, your gut gets the final say on all critiques.
Rule number 7: Keep your day job.
This is something I needed to hear.
He points out that with a day job your art isn’t beholden to the marketplace. It's a way to create with freedom rather than an excuse not to create. If Barbara Boxer found time to write a book as senator, I should be able to find the time or rather, make time to finish the last 50 pages of mine.
