"Once you trigger someone's hot button, there's nothing you can say. It's better to just let the other person cool down."
I wish I'd learned this about 20 years ago.

Something else you can try is to apologize and immediately change the topic to a happier or more uplifting one.
It seems the culture of different countries, decided everyone in the same things on different views, however, write a good article!
